Kate can walk!

After a long "Cleopatra stage"- being carried around, although knowing how to walk - her majesty has learned to walk by herself! We are thrilled. Those 27 pounds aren't easy on the arms.
(Notice the healthy bribe I used.) (DON'T notice the messes in the background.)

Jacob Starts Preschool

Jacob started preschool today. Here are a few facts about Jacob I filled out on his preschool application this morning.

Favorite food: watermelon
Favorite toy: light saber
Favorite movie: Star Wars
Favorite book: Jake the Philharmonic Dog

A Jacob Quote:

Last year Jacob developed an avid interest in dad and work. What was he doing? Why did he stay all day? Why did he have to go every day? Why couldn't he take us to Disneyland every day? After many explanations, he finally settled on a good answer.
Dad is at work to get money for us. Apparently it is in a drawer and it takes dad all day to get it out of the drawer and get it home. With this money he buys us all the things we need, like a house.

Today, dad stayed home sick from work. This morning, while dad was still in bed, Jacob yelled from downstairs:

"Daa-aaad. You better go to woooo-oork! Or else we have to sleep in the streeee-eet. We need money for our house todaaaaay!"

Ian's First Goal

Ian's soccer team this fall is the Orange Tigers. He scored his first goal, the only goal of the game for his team! He was very excited! Although we have no picture of the actual goal, here are some highlights from the game and an exclusive interview with Ian.

What a week!

Turns out we have this:

not this:

So four times a day we all take this:

Kate feels like this:

and Jake like this:

I have changed about 400 of these:

Done almost 50 of these:

and have even had to rent one of these:

Not our best week ever. But maybe I'll lose those last stubborn 10 lbs. before I go to Hawaii! Always look on the bright side.

Sick and Bored

Jake, Kate and I are sick this weekend. Here's my self-diagnosis, courtesy of the internet.

Cryptosporidiosis which we think might be related to an outbreak from pools in Utah: http://www.abc4.com/news/local/story.aspx?content_id=a7c6a00f-0900-4cb8-9dc0-407a2dda769f

It's pretty much a severe case of the runs. The kids won't eat and I feel awful and haven't had anything but Gatorade and crackers since Friday night. But on the bright side, I get to lounge around all weekend marching my way through Gilmore Girls season 4, finishing The Scarlet Pimpernel and finding other ways to keep me occupied as I stay within 10 yards of the toilet at all times.

Today is Sunday and I watched a DVD of the celebration for the 2004 rededication of the Sao Paulo Temple in Brazil. I served my mission there, oh, a decade ago, and LOVE the people there. I just about bawled my eyes out when all the missionaries marched into the stadium, Olympic style, waving the Brazilian flag.

Then I decided to do Kate's hair. I'm used to the "squirt and go" kind of hair, with two boys, so
this is foreign to me. I copied my friend Jenny, who always does her daughter Katie's hair so darling. So here it is...Kate's first official hairdo!

I know, she has pitiful amounts of hair but hey, I've been excited about this since the ultrasound in January 2006. The downside...I'm going to have to get up at 6:00am to pull this off for church.

Check out that profile!

Jake just informed me that he "didn't want this kind of baby."
"Who, Kate?"
"Yeah."
"Why not?"
"Because she steals my things and cries all the time!"

She is being a pill, although she sat still for the hairdo(?) C'mon, she is starving. Not to mention Jacob is pretty ornery himself. Hope we all get better soon!

First Day of First Grade

Ian started 1st grade today! I can't believe a baby of mine is so tall and grown-up and picked out his own shirt from H&M! He loved his first day. Here is an interview with Ian, since he doesn't really volunteer information.

What was your favorite part of the day? Sitting at the tables with checker boards on them when it was lunch.

Who is your teacher? Mrs. Delaney.

What do you like about her? She's a good teacher. People say she's the best teacher.

How do you like your new school...Stonecreek? It's different because it's all day.

What do you like about first grade? We get two lunches. One is a recess. I love going on the monkey bars.

Does Mrs. Delaney have any rules? Yes. No worries in first grade. Keep your hands to yourself. Walk to your school after the bell rings one time. And a bunch of other rules.

Who did you play with at recess? Hovannes and Ben. We played tag.

What did you learn? We read a book, The Teacher and the Black Lagoon.

Way to go, Ian! We are so proud of you!
