Scouting...

Yup. We're heading down this road now. Ian's pretty excited about Scouting because he gets to hang out with his buddies once a week and he has awesome den leaders! I'm glad he likes it but I feel a little intimidated by the whole thing...I'm still trying to wrap my brain around all the patches, bobcats, cubs, wolfs, beads, belt loops, den, troop and the rest of the Scout jargon. Ben and his four brothers are all Eagle Scouts so the pressure is on!

What is it about scouting being so intimidating? I'm right there with you. Dane's already totally excited and he's just barely 7!
I'm so glad he has good leaders. It makes all the difference.
He looks very cute in his uniform.

Oh! He looks so handsome!! I have an idea. Think of the scouting program like Personal Progress and it might help. Brady just turned Bear and Colby will be a wolf this year!! Ahhhh!! I know NOTHING about cub scouts even with 4 brothers :). But it's fun! THe boys love it. and Ian looks so handsome :)

I was recently released from 2 years as Webelos Leader. I didn't know anything before then, but I have a pretty good idea now (though Webelos is structured differently from the younger cubs.) One of his den leaders should come do an introduction with you...if they don't, you should ask them to. The best thing you can do is to make sure he makes it to the meetings, and be sure you do any of the "at-home" stuff necessary. It's SUCH a help to have supportive parents. It's pretty impossible to be an effective den leader if the parents are apathetic or non-helpful.

Just wait. It only gets more fun once they hit 11. Are we old enough for all this? Good luck.

I can't believe how much he looks like his dad. They all grow up too fast, right? I agree with the comment about treating scouting like PP..you are a pro at that, right?

What a cute (is that an allowable adjective for a boy?) little scout!

Hey Girl don't worry! I'm still as die hard a YW as they come :). We can still be YW together, swap ideas, swap horror stories :) oh, yes, we can :)

I'm with you, girlfriend! The first thing I said when I found out I was pregnant with my 4th boy was, "Oh no, more scouts!" I'm not kidding, ask my hubby. My 7-year old has 2 more month and we're back at pack meetings again! (my 12 yr old doesn't have to go to that anymore).
